Diego came to us from Chile where he was intimately involved with viticulture. Initially here he looked at the relationship between plant growth and soil properties, before moving on to examine how plants manage their water, with emphasis on gases passing through the cuticle. While handling that he has become our resident expert on the LI-COR 6800 photosynthesis system and has taught several courses, including a recent COVID-friendly one that is linked through the front page of this website.
Diego also has a strong interest in computers and has tackled, amongst other things, data collection using an Arduino and Python scripting in a browser.

He is currently at Birmingham University, having worked there with Florian Busch. Florian’s partner, Megan McDonald, has moved to ETH in Zurich and Florian’s emphasis will shift in that direction as well. So that will probably affect Diego’s situation too.
Diego has also been responsible fo setting up the site for the Stable Isotopes in Biosphere Science workshops.
